Croatia

beyond the beaten path

This small country with its spectacular rugged coastline dotted with islands, pristine forests, huge wetlands and wild mountains in the interior is without a doubt one of our favourite destinations in Europe. Its size and characteristic boomerang shape mean that it is always possible to combine visits to places of cultural and historical interest with excursions into Nature on the same day. With water sports of all kinds along the Cetina and Zrmanja rivers, trekking, bike-climbing or horseback riding in the numerous natural parks, as well as birdwatching in the vast wetlands or around the Plitvice lakes, active travellers are spoiled for choice. But this is a country whose beauty is best savoured slowly, alternating adrenaline-pumping sensations with peaceful solitude and contemplation, filling your eyes with the deep blues and your lungs with the pungent scents of the Adriatic sea.
